Globed - education policies for global development
Newsletter #6

The GLOBED project, created to set up the first European Masters on Education Policies for Global Development, has recently been awarded an Erasmus+ grant by the European Commission. GLOBED was one of the nine projects selected (out of a total number of fifty-eight eligible applications) awarded in the last call for Erasmus + Joint Master Degrees. This award means that GLOBED will be, from its inception in the academic year 2015-12016, an official masters degree recognised by all the institutions in the Consortium. The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), will also recognise and support GLOBED by co-funding the first three years of the MA programme with a total budget of €1,745,599. Graduates will be awarded a Joint Diploma and the corresponding Diploma Supplement to ensure that the GLOBED Masters certification meets the European standards on quality and transparency.

The evaluation report highlights that GLOBED is a well-structured and mature project that responds effectively to an identifiable need for well-trained professionals who will work in the field of education for development in the near future. The report underlines GLOBED’s capacity to equip (future and current) professionals working in the field with the necessary skills and competencies, and especially rates the collaboration of academic institutions with a large number of associate partners. Having such a large and high-quality network of institutions as associate partners was a crucial component in GLOBED’s award.

The EU funding includes a total of forty-one Joint Master Degree scholarships that must be granted to the first three years of the new Masters, starting in 2015-2016. In the coming months, our Consortium will establish the procedures and criteria for the first call for scholarships and will publish them on the GLOBED website. This information will be uploaded together with the complete Masters curriculum plan and all the information that students will require to enrol for the GLOBED Masters.

All the GLOBED Consortium members are extremely proud of this award and would like to take this occasion to sincerely thank all the collaborators that have made this achievement possible so far. The next GLOBED Summer School in Barcelona, from the 25th-26th September 2014, will be a great opportunity to celebrate!
